The route

UB Touring Japan runs this five day guided ride through the winter and early spring, from December to April, when the high mountain routes further north are closed. It is the company’s cold season tour, led out of its base at Narita, east of Tokyo, with riders collected from a Tokyo area hotel and returned there at the end.

The ground it covers is Chiba, Kanagawa, Yamanashi and Shizuoka. That means the roads around Hakone, the views of Mount Fuji from the lakes on its northern side, and the coastal and mountain roads of the Izu Peninsula, which stays rideable through the winter months while the Alps do not. Four prefectures in five days, at a pace that allows for stopping.

Groups are two to five riders with a leader riding in front. The motorcycle is included in the price, a Triumph Tiger Sport 850 or a Tiger 900, supplied with GPS, an ETC card for the expressways, unlimited mileage and insurance. A passenger can ride pillion for a daily supplement, and the transfer between Tokyo and the office is free.

Four nights of accommodation are included, rated three star or better, with breakfasts and half of the dinners. Expressway tolls, parking and government taxes are covered. Lunches, the other half of the dinners, fuel and temple admissions are paid as you go. A reservation fee is taken at booking and credited against the price. There is one departure left in 2026 and three in 2027, spread across late March, April and late November. The operator has said published dates can move, so confirm with UB Touring before booking travel.
