Wonders of Norway
Trollstigen and the Atlantic Road, ridden in the long northern summer daylight.
Tell us your trip details and we'll put together a complimentary Stradora Expedition Pack for the journey.
The route
Twenty nights from Hamburg up through Denmark into Norway and back, for the fjords, the Atlantic Road and the Arctic light. Riders may bring their own bike, which is the cheaper option, or hire one.
Kiel and the overnight ferry to Oslo start it, then the western fjords and Naeroyfjord, a UNESCO listed arm of the Sognefjord barely 250 metres wide in places. The Bjorgavegen snow road and the Stegastein viewpoint follow, a timber platform cantilevered out high above the water, then the Jostedalsbreen glacier, the largest in mainland Europe, and Fjaerland.
Innvikfjorden and Hellesylt lead to a ferry down Geirangerfjord and the Trollstigen pass, eleven hairpins hard against a waterfall, then Molde, Romsdalsfjorden and the Atlantic Road, five miles of bridges across open sea. Trondheim follows, with Bakklandet, the Nidaros cathedral and Kristiansten fortress, and then the Arctic Circle, the village of Hell, the Laksforsen falls, Mo i Rana and Bodo.
A ferry crosses to the Lofoten Islands for A, Reine and Svolvaer, and the Hurtigruten coastal express then runs back down the Helgeland coast calling at fourteen villages. Bergen comes next with Bryggen and the fish market, then Hardangerfjord, Roldal, the Suleskar Road and the Lysevegen pass down to Lysebotn, which drops through twenty-seven hairpins and a tunnel that turns through 180 degrees inside the mountain. The southern coast and a ferry to Hirtshals close the loop. Prices are quoted in US dollars, per person. Twenty nights is the right length for Norway because the ferries and the fjords dictate the pace, and in high summer the daylight runs so late that a long day never feels like one.
