An African Honeymoon - Namibia, Zimbabwe & Botswana
Watch a beetle harvest its own drinking water from fog in one of the driest deserts on Earth, then a few days later paddle a dugout canoe past crocodiles twice as long as you are tall – twelve honeymoon nights across three countries.
Tell us your trip details and we'll put together a complimentary Stradora Expedition Pack for the journey.
The route
Thirteen days across three countries in southern Africa, with a 4×4 self-drive leg through Namibia and then flights to the parts no sensible person drives to.
Windhoek opens it, then Omaruru with a guided sunset hike in the Erongo Mountains, which are the eroded remains of an enormous ancient volcano. Swakopmund follows for two nights, a German colonial town wedged between the desert and a cold Atlantic, where the oysters are excellent and the dunes at Sandwich Harbour run straight into the sea.
Sesriem then gets two nights in Namib-Naukluft, one of the largest conservation areas in Africa. Sossusvlei has dunes over three hundred metres high and was used for parts of Dune, which is unsurprising given it looks like another planet. Oryx live out there, as does the Stenocara beetle, which harvests fog on its own back to drink.
Victoria Falls follows by air, with walking between the Main, Horseshoe and Rainbow Falls and the Devil’s Cataract, and an optional helicopter flight or Zambezi sunset cruise. The trip finishes with two nights at a bush camp at Khwai on the edge of the Moremi Reserve in Botswana, reached by road transfer and air taxi, with a morning game drive and a mokoro canoe trip through the channels past Nile crocodiles. Lion, leopard and elephant are all resident, though what any drive produces is luck. Original Travel include the 4×4, the internal flights and transfers, accommodation, the activities, concierge access, a 24-hour helpline and carbon absorption. International flights and most meals are separate. Prices run from 5,900 to 8,050 pounds per person.
