6 nights through Spain

Six nights from a single four-star hotel base near Malaga, with no luggage to pack and a different ride each day. It is a winter trip, timed for sun when Britain has none.

The hotel is the whole arrangement: one room for the week, full use of the leisure facilities, breakfast every morning, and a guide who rides with the group. Detailed route plans, maps and GPS files for Garmin or TomTom are provided, with suggested coffee and lunch stops marked, so a rider can take a day alone without having to plan it.

A full day’s rideout goes west to Ronda, taking in two roads that local riders themselves have voted among the best in Spain, which is a stronger recommendation than any brochure. Another full day covers the mountains and lakes north of Malaga, with a figure-of-eight route through the natural park on the way back.

The rest of the week is pick-your-own: the routes are supplied, the guide is on hand, and riders choose how hard to go at it. Bikes can be rented from a range chosen for the local roads, with insurance and breakdown cover included in that, or riders can bring their own with transport arranged. The headline price is per rider on their own bike, with separate prices for a rider and passenger and for two riders with two bikes. Winter riding in Andalucia is the point: the coast stays mild, the mountains behind it are empty in February, and the roads are dry.
