10 nights through Spain
Ten nights, self-guided, in the southern Spanish province of Cadiz, which Caminos calls small yet endlessly fascinating. The suggested route is a circle, with hotels and an economy hire car arranged, and the page notes you can do as little or as much of it as you like.
Cadiz sits on the Atlantic-facing Costa de la Luz, close to the sherry towns of Jerez, Sanlucar and El Puerto de Santa Maria and within reach of the Donana National Park. Inland, the Sierra de Grazalema and the Alcornocales Nature Park are a short drive away. Caminos lists seafood, including tuna from the Almadraba, dancing horses and flamenco as part of the picture, and it is a different Andalucia from the better-known Golden Triangle.
Two nights in Cadiz itself cover the cathedral dome, La Caleta beach, the Tavira Tower with its camera obscura and the castles of San Sebastian and Santa Catalina. Two nights follow in the sherry towns, with bodegas, the horse show in Jerez and Donana. The White Villages and the Sierra de Grazalema take two nights, among them Arcos de la Frontera, Medina Sidonia, Setenil and Olvera. Los Alcornocales, with its cork oak woodlands and Castellar de la Frontera, takes two more, and the Costa de la Luz finishes with Vejer, Trafalgar, Baelo Claudia and Tarifa.
The price covers hotels on a bed and breakfast basis for two sharing a double room, an economy four-door hire car for those flying, a regional guide book and a personal travel app with restaurant suggestions and weather forecasts, and instructions for finding every hotel. Flights, one-way and cross-border car hire charges, extras such as a second driver, garage parking and local tourist taxes are not included. Caminos quotes about £1,250 per person as an indicative mid-season figure for 10 nights, and adapts the route, hotels and airports to each traveller.
