2 nights through Sweden

Two nights of ice driving in Swedish Lapland, in a Porsche, about a hundred kilometres inside the Arctic Circle.

Arvidsjaur is the base, reached by a charter flight from Frankfurt, Munich or Zurich which is included in the price. The region is used year round by car manufacturers for winter testing, which is why the facilities are what they are: some thirty kilometres of ice track, sonar-measured for thickness before use, and the air temperature does the rest.

The programme opens with a warm-up session, then full training days at the ice centre across four stations of ninety-minute runs, graded by experience, with a night evaluation test and dinner beside a frozen lake. Night driving in the Arctic is less of an imposition than it sounds, since in midwinter there is very little daylight to use instead. The cars are double-crewed and swapped between team members, with roughly twelve to fourteen hours of track time over three days, on spiked tyres and with instructors throughout.

The charter flight, local transfers, two or three nights in a superior room with breakfast and dinner, an exclusively booked lodge for daytime use, the instruction and equipment, three days of driving in a guaranteed Porsche and the spiked tyres are all included, with the insurance excess reduced to three thousand euros. A non-driver package, husky sledding for companions and a single-driver upgrade are extra. This is a driving course rather than a tour, and the most expensive thing in the range: what the price buys is a guaranteed car, a guaranteed surface and a great deal of seat time.
