Morocco - Roads & Desert Raid

A crater used in a James Bond film, a square from Star Wars, and a mosque that’s the second-largest in Africa all feature – seventeen nights through Morocco with more film-set detours than most people manage in a lifetime of cinema trips.

17 nights through Morocco

A new variant of the Morocco run for 2027, eighteen days with a longer and more interesting way home. Same route out to the Sahara, then a return through Casablanca and the Tangier coast rather than straight back the way it came.

The outbound leg is the proven one. An overnight ferry from Portsmouth, then Spain by way of Seville’s Plaza de Espana, which has doubled for Naboo in Star Wars and for Cairo in Lawrence of Arabia, and Ronda’s bridge. Morocco starts at Chefchaouen and the Rif, then Fes and its medina, the Middle Atlas with Barbary macaques in the Ifrane National Park, and the Gorges du Ziz.

Then the desert. Erg Chebbi, a camel trek at sunset and a night at a luxury Berber camp among the dunes. The Dades Gorge follows by way of a crater used in the Bond film Spectre, then the Draa Valley and Todra Gorge, then the Ouarzazate film studios, Ait Benhaddou and the Tizi-n-Tichka pass at 7,415 feet into Marrakech with dinner on the Jemaa el-Fnaa. The return adds Casablanca, the Hassan II Mosque, second largest in Africa, and Rick’s Cafe.

Moto Travel Dude include both return ferries with a shared cabin, a UK guide riding his own bike, Moroccan third-party insurance, local guides in certain towns, the camel trek and luxury desert camp, four evening meals, all breakfasts and every night in hotels, riads and kasbahs with guarded parking. Fuel, insurance, breakdown cover and most evening meals are separate. For film buffs, the detour list alone justifies the extra days.
