Southern Crossover

Three weeks and 3,200 miles from Miami Beach to Los Angeles, coast to coast across the southern United States. It is the only transcontinental trip in their range and it is arranged from the UK with flights, car and hotels together.

The first week is Florida and the Gulf: three nights at Miami Beach, two in Orlando, then the Big Bend, Pensacola Beach and two nights in New Orleans. Texas comes next, with Houston, then two nights across Dallas and Fort Worth, where the Stockyards still run a twice-daily cattle drive and Billy Bob’s claims to be the largest honky-tonk in the world. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is in Dallas.

The second half changes country entirely. Amarillo brings Cadillac Ranch, ten Cadillacs buried nose-down in a field beside Route 66 and repainted by whoever turns up. Santa Fe follows, with the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and adobe streets, then Monument Valley and the Mittens, the Grand Canyon, two nights in Las Vegas and three in Los Angeles to finish.

Thirteen stops over twenty-one nights, six of them two nights or more. This is a genuinely long drive and the daily legs show it, so it suits someone who actively wants the distance rather than tolerating it. Joshua Tree and Palm Springs are offered as options near the end. The itinerary is bespoke, with nights addable and stops removable, and departures arranged around your dates. It suits anyone who has wanted to drive across America and would rather do the southern route, where the weather cooperates and the music is better.
