13 nights through Canada

Thirteen nights in a motorhome looping out of Toronto, which covers a good deal more of southern Ontario than most visitors see before they head for the Rockies.

Toronto opens it with the CN Tower, St Lawrence Market and the Art Gallery of Ontario, then the Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries on the way to the falls, with a boat trip into the spray at the bottom. Elora and its gorge follow, then Blue Mountain above Georgian Bay with a gondola.

Algonquin is the first of the wild stops, a park where canoeing is the proper form of transport and moose, black bear and loon are all common. Pembroke follows on the Ottawa River, which calls itself the whitewater capital of Canada and has the rafting to justify it.

The second half is quieter and more interesting for it. The Bonnechere Caves are toured underground and took five hundred million years to form. Bon Echo Provincial Park has Mazinaw Rock rising a hundred metres straight out of the lake with more than 260 Indigenous pictographs painted on its face, best seen from the water. Perth follows with Code’s Mill of 1842, then Murphy’s Point, then two nights in Thousand Islands National Park among granite islets best explored by kayak. Prince Edward County and its wineries come next, then Keene on Rice Lake. Canadian Affair include the flights, the motorhome and the listed attractions, with campground fees, fuel, insurance and meals separate. The price is per person, and at 1,094 pounds this is the cheapest holiday in their range. For a first motorhome trip it is a sensible choice, since the distances are short, the campgrounds are plentiful and nothing on the route is remote enough to be intimidating.
